Water Pump Gaskets

___________

MACRO and MICRO Adaptation

The Water Pump Gasket is the element in charge of guaranteeing the sealing between the cooling pump and the engine block. Thus, this element must adapt to the faces of the contact surfaces perfectly.
It is necessary to take into consideration two technical concepts to better understand how the different materials of these elements work.

MACRO adaptation refers to the capacity of the material to adapt to the water pump and engine block faces, without being deformed or breaking.

Besides that, MICRO adaptation relates to the microscopic adaptation of the materials, because all materials have imperfections.

These materials imperfections are minimal when they leave the factory, this is why metallic gaskets are currently used for the assembly of new vehicle engines.

However, when the water pump is replaced by preventive maintenance, the vehicle has traveled around 120.000 km., suffering temperature changes, dilations and contractions in the different components.

By being in contact with the liquid, the standard gasket increases its volume and thanks to the fact that it is a soft material, it adapts perfectly to the base of the engine block. This can be translated into a greater MICRO adaptation.
