Possible premature engine damages

 

Assembly tips to avoid premature engine damages

Airtex team has been enquiring and working to make specific assembly instructions, in order to avoid premature engine damages.

These damages appear at few kilometers working, and they can be belt breack, belt tooth shearing, coolant pump impeller displacement, etc. resulting in an engine failure.

In all these PSA engines, there are two different block holes in the camshaft. One of them has 8 mm diameter, and the other one has 6 mm diameter.

 

For timing belt kit replacement, it is necessary to turn the camshaft pulley until the camshaft gets placed in the correct position (see image below), and Ø 8 mm diameter lock pin needs to be used.

For HP fuel pump repair / replacement, it is necessary to turn the camshaft pulley until the camshaft gets placed in the correct position (see image below), and Ø 6 mm diameter lock pin needs to be used.

At this engine position, make sure the alignment between HP fuel pump sprocket wheel and housing marks is correct (see image below).
